Multiple Arbitrary Function Generator Model 248
Multiple Arbitrary Function Generator Model 248
Colloquially known as the “MARF,” the Model 248 is the Holy Grail of West Coast signal creation. Combining and exceeding the possibilities of sequencers and envelope generators, the 248 moves beyond those constraints for open-ended voltage output and an unparalleled amount of dynamic musical control. With 16 or 32 addressable storage locations, you can produce any desired asynchronous outputs, with their own time scales and phase relationships as desired.
It’s not a sequencer, and it’s not an envelope generator - it’s both of those at once, with degrees of control and programmability that are unimaginable in other analog systems. Unlike many more conventional takes on this concept, it can also function as a voltage processor as well as generator.
Features:
- 16 dedicated output voltages with sliders
- 16 interval time sliders
- Time segment ranges from 1ms to 120 seconds
- 16-32 max time segments
- Signal generation and (via inputs) processing functionality
- Per-segment voltage control of times and output voltage (for use cases such as independently voltage-controlling attack and decay times)
- Two time multiplier controls (.5- 4x) with voltage control
- Two sets of programmed outputs
- Four external inputs
- Continuous, quantized, sloped, and stepped outputs
- Range offsets
- Stage address functionality with voltage control
- Start/stop logic (via switches or applied pulses)
- Programmed output controls in any pattern
